With just over one week as the President-elect, Mr. Trump has already shown that he will not stay true to his promise to represent all Americans but will instead stay true to the racism and bigotry of his campaign by stocking his administration with known white supremacists. Boston NOW and our allies will not be silent as Mr. Trump promises to undue decades of civil rights progress.
Please join Boston NOW, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the Anti-Defamation League, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Emily’s List, and other organizations committed to justice by condemning President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Steve Bannon as chief strategist.
Bannon, the former chairman of white nationalist publication Breitbart News, is a known white supremacist, whose appointment has been endorsed by the KKK and the American Nazi Party. Recently, a spokesperson for Bannon said on FOX News that Japanese internment camps provide a precedent for a national Muslim registry. We must stand up against such un-American policies, and against Bannon’s racist, anti-semitic, Islamophobia, misogynistic, and homophobic views having any place in American government.
Here are four easy things you can do right now to help stop Bannon:
- Sign the petitions:
Southern Poverty Law Center: https://www.splcenter.org/stephen-bannon-has-no-business-white-house
- Urge Governor Baker to Condemn Bannon’s AppointmentDespite all of the evidence that Steve Bannon is an inappropriate choice for chief strategist and unqualified to represent all Americans, Governor Charlie Baker has urged voters to take a wait-and-see approach to his appointment. Please call Governor Baker and ask him to join speak out against Bannon.
Governor’s Office Phone: 617.725.4005 or 888.870.7770 (in state)
- Call your Senators and Representative:
MA Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey have both condemned Bannon’s appointment. (Markey in a letter available here, and Warren in a co-signed letter to financial industry leaders and publicly, such as at this Wall Street Journal event.) But you can still call them to tell them you support their efforts to stand up against Bannon’s appointment.

You can also contact your Representative to express your concern about Bannon’s appointment and to urge your Rep to speak out against it. Use this tool to find your Representative. This Medium post has some simple scripts you can follow.
4. Call House Speaker Paul Ryan:
Let him know that as the House Speaker and head of the GOP, he must reject the appointment of a known white supremacist. His DC office number is (202) 225-3031.
